Dog walking

Dog walker in Koh Samui, Thailand

Do you need a dog walker on a regular or occasional basis?

As a Certified Dog Behaviorist & Trainer using positive reinforcement and force free techniques, I am also available to take your dog for daily walks around your home. Whether it’s a simple walk or a training one with behavior modification, your dog will let us know.

During your dog’s walk:

  • He wears a collar with an ID tag
    and a Y or H shaped harness,
  • I keep him on a leash for safety,
  • I let him explore and sniff,
  • I adapt to his pace,
  • I manage encounters with dogs,
  • I ensure his safety,
  • I reward good behaviors,

A high quality individual walk

As a dog walker, I have chosen to offer only individual walks. This allows me to fully focus on your dog’s needs and preferences. I ensure that his walk is enjoyable and that all his needs are met, including scent exploration, discovery and socialization.

If your dog does not want to enjoy the entire 1 hour walk due to the weather or for any other reason (fear, fatigue, old age…), we will return to your home for mental stimulation activities* or for some cuddles or playtime.

*10 minutes of mental stimulation is equivalent to 30 minutes of physical exercise.

Training walk with behavior modification

Does your dog pull on the leash during walks, react to humans or other dogs, jump on people, chase vehicles?

I use the opportunity of his individual walk to coach him by:

  • working on his focus on me,
  • encouraging him to stay near me,
  • anticipating his reactions.

If your dog’s behavior during your walks turns these moments into stressful situations, we can work together on a behavior modification plan.

In addition to his walks

Chewing activities and mental stimulation are essential for dogs. When he’s not out for a walk, you can keep him busy by giving him special things to chew, and mentally stimulate him by hiding treats in a sniffing mat or a puzzle game. These intellectual activities are an excellent complement to the physical activity provided by his daily walks. 10 minutes of mental stimulation is equivalent to 30 minutes of physical exercise.

Walking your dog with the right equipment

At Almost Perfect Paws, any coercive or harmful equipment that could injure your dog is prohibited.

I recommend using a leash that is at least 1.5 meter long in the city, and a 5 or 10 meters long lead at the beach or in the forest to give your dog a sense of semi freedom.

It should be attached to a H or Y shaped harness, such as those from brands like Dog Copenhagen or True Love. It should be properly sized, light and comfortable to wear. It must not restrict movement around the front legs and shoulder blades, which is why T shaped harnesses are not recommended.

A collar should only be used to wear an ID tag with your phone number for safety reasons. Attaching the leash to a collar can damage your dog’s trachea and cervical spine.
